Table of Contents
It’s a magazine carrier. It carries a magazine.
Not terribly complex. And I love this thing. It’s the finest magazine carrier I’ve ever had. I couldn’t find any for years and now they have some again. For a few guns, mostly Glocks. I swear, it’s almost worth buying a Glock to be able to get another of these.
It is specific to the magazine. No one size fits all or anything. Mine is for the eight-round magazine for my M&P Shield.
Who do I love it so?
- It’s horizontal not vertical and so conceals better.
- It has excellent retention.
- Very easy on and off.
- Removal and insertion of the magazine is remarkably easy given the retention level.
As you can see, it sits parallel to your belt. It’s only slightly longer than the magazine so it doesn’t stick out far enough on me to print. At all. Ever.
Functionality.
All you do to put the carrier on your belt is just put the gap over your belt and then roll it to the inside. That’s it. It’s on your belt until you make a deliberate effort to remove it. Which involves rolling it back off your belt.
The retention comes from that little piece that sticks out of the top, or back as it sits on your belt. To put the magazine in you just put the mag in. That naturally just moves the retention piece out of the way. If you have the magazine upside down it sticks so you do have warning. I much prefer this to other horizontal magazine carriers I’ve seen; they tend to have Velcro, snaps, or some other form of retention that requires some sort of deliberate act to disable or they just have friction. The Safe2fire’s retention method is superior.
In the Safe2fire, to remove the magazine you use a pinky or ring finger to push the retention tab back and the magazine just slides into your hand. I cannot overemphasize how natural and easy this is. You basically grab the magazine with a good, put it in your gun, grip and your hand just automatically releases the retention. Look at the pictures below to see my hand positions when removing the magazine.
Downsides.
One. It’s magazine specific. It kind of has to be, doesn’t it? There’s no other way to get this retention to work. As I said above, mine is for my M&P Shield. I currently possess nothing else that they make one of these for.
There is only room for one of these on your belt that you can get to without contortions. I don’t really see that as a downside but some could. I’m a concealed carrying citizen; I’m not in law enforcement, competing, or doing anything else that I think would normally require me to need more than one spare magazine.
Conclusion.
As I said, I love this thing. The list of magazines they make it for is smaller than I’d like. I have a couple Sigs, Springfields, and at least one Browning I’d get one for if I could. I am short of Glocks, though, and I don’t have a P365 (yet).
Go to eBay and check out the list. If you have one of those guns get one of these. You won’t regret it.
