The Versacarry Element is a basic, one-size-fits-many, Inside Waist Band, leather holster. I bought it for my Sig Sauer SP2022. In that review, I mention that it was kind of hard to find a holster for it.
This is my current solution. Does it work? Yes. Yes, it does. Is it perfect? Well…

The Good
- It works. I’m not sure why, but formed holsters for an SP2022 are not easy to find. At least not for a reasonable price. This holster holds it just fine.
- It has a spot for a spare magazine.
- When you take the gun and magazine out it goes flat. So if you’re about to go somewhere you can’t take the gun and need to secure it in your car you can leave the holster on your belt. Maybe cinch the belt up a notch.
- The leather and clips are quality. I don’t worry about things falling off or apart.
The Not-So-Good.
- It’s not formed to the gun.
- On the same side as the gun is not my ideal place for a spare magazine. There’s no law that says you have to use that pouch, though.
- The problem with a holster that folds flat is that has ramifications when re-holstering.
- There’s only one real adjustment.
- It’s really wide across your waist with the gun and magazine.
I’ll expand on the lists.
First, the gun fits fine. And the trigger guard is covered so there’s no way to get something in there to pull the trigger.
But it’s not formed to the Sig. There’s a reason that Kydex is so common these days. It works and it’s secure.
The holster is one size fits many. There are basically three sizes: size 1 is full sized and compact double-stack guns. Glock 17 and 19, Sig P226 and P229, and the S&W M&P series, except the Shield. The Shield, Springfield XD-S, and similar guns are size 3. The 1911 and Hi-Power guns are size 2. There’s a size selector here that will tell you exactly which one you need.
Security comes mainly from concealment, which it does pretty well; it does require a bit more fussiness in placement due to the width of the gun and magazine being together.
Retention in a leather IWB comes from how tight your belt is. That’s a trade off you have to decide on; the tighter the belt the less comfortable but the more secure the gun is.
If you look at the picture, you can see that on one of the clips there are three holes. That’s your cant adjustment and that’s all there is. And those holes aren’t all that far apart, either. I’m happy with the default configuration so I just left it alone.
This is actually the second Versacarry holster I’ve reviewed. The Commander is essentially the OWB version of this one and I have one for my 1911. I’ve had that one for quite some time with no evidence of fraying or loose threads. That makes me confident of the quality of this one.
Comfort.
It’s really comfortable, even against bare skin. There is one caveat. Note that the muzzle sticks out a bit. It’s not much but it does actually dig into me somewhat when I’m sitting. At least it does if I’m not real careful with the positioning of the holster on my belt.
Again, depending on positioning, I’ve found the spare magazine to be slightly uncomfortable when sitting. It’s pretty mild, it can be fixed with positioning, or you can just not use the pouch. If not it folds flat and it’s like it’s not even there.
Conclusion
So, is this my favorite holster ever? No, it’s not. It is, however, an effective method for carrying one my of favorite guns. Right now, if I want the Sig SP2022, this is my choice.
I recommend getting them directly from Versacarry’s site.
